Year II Week 1 - Daughter Diary

“To a father, nothing is more sweet than a daughter. Boys are more spirited, but their ways are not so tender.”       ― Euripides

It was one of those fun filled evenings that makes your forget all the sorrows of the world. The only concern was Ridhima’s health. She had been stressed out completely because of the severe cold. Rinku took the risk and bathed her with lukewarm water in the afternoon that day and fortunately it worked. She started looking all pepped up without a sign of fatigue and illness. Daughters are incredible you see! It was 4pm when I reached home from office and rushed to buy the best cake in locality along with my sister in law who just arrived from Pune just to be a part of the festivities. After six shops and 50 cakes we finalized one that look appropriate and was instantly available. We kept getting panic calls from Rinku for us being late. We had to reach the venue at 8pm at least before the guests. I invited 16-17 of them (all my close friends) and it was most likely that all of them would arrive.

Ridhima wore that expensive dress and was looking very pretty. Rinku surprised me with her quick make up and her dress. She was looking all the more beautiful. My sister in law was also not far behind. For me it was mostly a usual stuff, the only difference was, I wore everything new. New pair of jeans, new t-shirt and the new woodland footwear (It was actually a slipper I don’t know the name of that kinda footwear). Fashion is hard for me.

Yes! We reached late and by the time most of the guests were already arrived. My brother and his wife were still to come. We started at around 9 when almost everyone was in. The best part was everyone liked the food and the ambience. Sigh of relief for me, quite literally! People especially my friends are always fed of my choices. We cut the cake and had a blast. It was truly worth it.

Snaps from ground zero
The new thing that Ridhima has learnt last week is, she now knows how to kiss. One fine morning I was sleeping and her Mom made her sit by me probably to wake me up. Ridhima came all the way from the distant corner of the bed crossed me, open her big mouth and pecked on my cheeks and then said “Pa-pa”. That! You can’t compare anything with that feeling.

She now changes tone to convey her feelings. When she is angry she would scream and when happy she would just whisper “Pa-pa” or mostly “Ma-ma”. She recognizes a number of things around her and everything else that she does not recognize becomes “Bhoo” or “Aam”. Life is simple! The one thing that she absolutely loves is going out of house. Yesterday was one such day when she was so happy, so very happy that she was jumping in her mom’s lap when we took her out for a spin. We, however, were caught in the rain for hours and there was some miss-communication happened resulting into a sorry scene but we were safe and sound by the time we went to sleep.

She is still coughing a lot and her mom keeps a constant vigil on her antics. She is given some homemade ayurvedic medicine. We hope it works.
