Good old ghazals transcend you to a different sphere as if cradling your soul between flashbacks. You go slow and sense of lassitude pervades the air. Ashok Khosla's soothing voice can be so relevant for such melancholy settings... I remember my days when all of my note books and diaries used to have lines scribbled on every bit of empty space including margins. So much so, I used to jot down ghazals from radio on my college notes. It was fun.
And then my serenity is broken by the arrival of Ridhima Singh from her bed directly to me. She has already snatched my notebook and is drawing something. In a moment I will be dragged to draw a sun, some clouds and a house to give her company. By the way it is 11 o'clock in the night and she was supposed to be sleeping. Children can be so unpredictable. She is so full of stories these days, you can spend hours sitting listening to her imaginary gestures and dramatic expressions while she narrates them with a twinkle in her tiny little eyes.
It was conveyed to us that she had to dress up like a frog on Saturday. It was enough for her mom to trigger emergency. She bought the card board and a green sheet to draw a big frog Ridhima would wear on that day. By Friday evening she pressed the panic button as there was nothing ready. I was hardly aware of all this. In the evening, the moment we pulled out the cardboard and the sheet to start our project frog Ridhima joined us with all her zeal and started to mess up things. We had to wait till she slept (around 11.30pm). We resumed the work and within an hour were able to put together a decent frog drawing. I will be honest here, It was more of a face saver than a frog.
When I saw the pictures of her event the next day, I was glad that there were lazier parents in Ridhima's school than us. It boosted our confidence, Rinku is already waiting for the next event.

No! Ridhima has not slept yet (11.15pm). She has been taken to the bedroom by her mother and I still hear her talk and giggle. Sleep baby sleep!
