It's been more than a month now since Rinku, my wife, went to Pune- her mother's home. It was the eighth month of her pregnancy and we have been anxious if anything goes wrong. Mumbai does not give you enough time to contemplate where you almost spend half of your life surviving local train journeys. Getting murdered by life for survival on daily basis is normal.
Rinku's life has also been very busy multitasking, she is somebody who likes to keep the house neat and clean. This by itself is a full-time job. She has to manage her studies that's again is an exhaustive tale. I realized through her that B.Ed can kill you. Third, she had to appear in the final exam of it in May this year, her seventh month of pregnancy. She has been a brave girl!
Soon after the exam got over we realized that my brother was getting married on 28th of May and it was not possible for her now to travel and attend the wedding. She happily shifted to her mother's place in Pune. The wait was reaching to an end as the doctor has given 17 July as the delivery date. Endless phone calls to eat right and not stress too much became a routine. She worries about our future a lot, especially about my career. I had been juggling between Mumbai and Pune on weekends to see her.
My work leads me to meet interesting people. People who are the leaders in their fields, who wrote books and speak beyond the world. It was one of my interesting meetings on 9th July 2013 when we were finalising the deal and was working on how an ecosystem of marketing can be created around it. I got a call at around 11.30 am from Rinku that she was going for her regular check up. After half an hour or so she called me again saying she was not feeling comfortable. And then came a call when I was informed that doctor wants the delivery to happen that day itself. I was not at all prepared for it neither did Rinku. There was no labor pain and the doctor had her on medication so that the pain gets started. It was 3.30 PM by then fortunately the meeting got over. I started for Pune.
It was by 6 pm when I reached my place packed my bag and rushed to Vashi to catch a bus to Pune. I was worried. I have heard that it is very difficult to go through the excruciating pain of child-birth. I regretted I was not there beside her to hold her hand and say everything is gonna be fine. It was raining heavily leading to heavy traffic jams and my bus was somehow crawling intermittently. by the time I reached Khandala, it was past 7.30 PM. I clearly remember calling Ritu (my sister in law) at 7.57 PM to ask about the situation there and she informed I was blessed with a baby girl. How I wanted to be there! I am falling short of words to describe how good it feels to be a father. The most satisfying thing was, it was a normal delivery and baby along with her mother were fine. Shashi Bhaiya (my brother in law) messaged me that the baby looked beautiful and I wished to fly and be there to see them.
It was 11.30PM when I reached the hospital anticipating that Rinku would be lying on her bed and the situation might be a little tough to handle. I was reaching her cabin and could hear her happy voice as she was telling something to Ritu. I saw her feeding the baby and looked settled as if she was the face of satisfaction. I joined the party.
