It was just another night last
week. It was perhaps Saturday when after our dinner we all went into our beds.
Rituji (my sister-in law) has been of great help looking after our little one.
She has taken the living -room bed leaving us all three for the bedroom. It’s
been good so far but Ridhima off late has been very active while sleeping and
she just turns the way she wants leaving us little space to stay comfortable. It’s
not discomfort as it sounds but has a little pleasure in all these. You just cannot
enjoy enough when she suddenly rolls over and snuggles while she is fast
asleep. Absolute innocence that adorns her sleeping face with mouth little open
and the tiny pink fingers moving intermittently.
She opens her eyes at around 8 in
the morning and would not create much fuss waking up as I have seen other child
do. She would look at the poster, smile and would be ready to play in five
minutes. Rinku these days has trained her so that she would not wet her bed.
She seldom does it from last one month and waits for it till morning. How has
she got the sense of it is not known to us though.
Coming back to that incident- it
was 1.30 am when Ridhima started coughing strangely and was it seemed having
trouble breathing. We immediately switched the fan off and rubbed some hot
mustard oil on her chest. Rinku was already into tears as was coughing
continuously. It was panic and we would not know what to do. After rubbing the
oil for a while we rocked her and she slept. We took a sigh of relief and
slept. Next morning they took her to the doctor; he prescribed some medicines
and advised that she would need the vapor for the next three days for instant
recovery.
She recovered really fast and
whenever we took her to the clinic for the vapor therapy she on the contrary of
our belief enjoyed it the most. She would lick the mask and make funny noises
as if wanting to eat it. Doctors too were amused by this as babies create ruckus
when the vapor mask is on, I myself have witnessed a couple of such cases. I created a video of the scene when she is
laughing loudly keeping the mask on.
She mostly stays asleep when I
start for office in the morning. When I come back she would directly look into
my eyes and would laugh at anything that I would do to her. She would then play
with me. It’s an amazing feeling!
